COMERICA BANK ANNOUNCES WINNERS OF SECOND ANNUAL COMERICA BANK VOTE FOR THE FLOAT CONTEST
DALLAS, January 8, 2010 — Comerica Bank Chairman and CEO Ralph Babb today presented a $12,500 check to W.E. Greiner Middle School and Exploratory Arts Academy for winning first place in the Second Annual Comerica Bank Vote for the Float Competition.

Greiner’s float “Celebrate Legends” was a larger than life tribute to entertainers lost too soon. Giant busts of Selena, Elvis and Michael Jackson adorned the float, each hand-painted by the students. The float was designed with this year’s parade theme, “Celebrate Entertainment,” in mind.

This is the second, first-place win for Greiner. The school won the 2009 Vote for the Float competition with its “Save the Earth” float about recycling.

“We are very excited to celebrate with the students at Greiner Middle School for their very creative expression of this year’s theme and second win,” said Babb. “Our city has a bright future with students as gifted as these coming out of our schools.”

Greiner’s “Celebrate Legends” float was one of eight finalists designed by Dallas County ISD middle school students. Winning floats were determined by more than 25,000 votes cast by AT&T wireless texting and by online voting at www.voteforthefloat.com.

“We are thrilled to have won this year’s Vote for the Float Competition,” said Joanna Henry, art teacher, Greiner Middle School. “We thank Comerica for the opportunity to participate in such a creative project that is unlike any other. Comerica’s dedication to supporting fine arts in our schools inspires us, and we look forward to defending our title next year!”

Winning entries in the Comerica Bank Vote for the Float Contest included:

  • Third Place ($3,000) — “Celebrate the Zoo” float designed by students from John B. Hood Middle School, Dallas ISD. Fred Davis III, principal; Lisa DelMonte, teacher.
